Under RSBY, both public and private hospitals are empanelled, giving public hospitals the incentive to treat beneficiaries as the money flows directly from an insurer to the public hospital, which it can then use to improve health infrastructure and implement modern technologies.

Below the Poverty Line (BPL) families now have an alternate means that enables them to receive the protection afforded by micro-insurance to help them tide over health setbacks. They also have the power to choose their health service provider thus creating an incentive mechanism for providers to improve the quality of their services.
